Xavier the Jesuit
At first Francis was totally
opposed to Ignatius’ way of life and thought. But when he saw the light and was
won over to God by St. Ignatius, he dedicated himself whole-heartedly to the
cause of the Reign of God and what is now known as the Jesuit Way of
Proceeding. His intimacy with and dedication to Jesus could make him pray:
O, my God I love thee
Not because I hope for
heaven thereby
Nor because they who love
thee not
Must perish eternally
Thou, O Jesus, thou didst me
Upon the cross embrace
For me didst bear the nails and spear
And manifold disgrace…….
